I can very much relate to this. I wouldn’t want to take a pill to ‘cure’ myself of bipolar either. I don’t think it’s something to be cured, but instead something to be managed. Likewise, autism is something to be managed. I have at least two cousins with Asperger’s, and at least three more cousins with some other form of autism. They’re all wicked smart people. One of my cousins was reading college level science textbooks when he was in middle school. He’s in high school now and recently started reading fiction. Another one of my cousins decided that he wanted to skip pre-calc and then took AP calculus as a sophomore in high school. He failed because he didn’t do his work, but then he got the highest grade in his class on the AP exam (he got a 4). After a few bumps, he eventually graduated from college and now has a job and is doing very well.
