Am I Bipolar or Waking Up? by Sean Blackwell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
It’s a very interesting perspective on the diagnosis of bipolar disorder. Sean Blackwell considers his experience of what the Western world (in accordance with the DSM IV) would diagnose as depression followed by mania and psychosis to instead have been a spiritual emergency followed by a spiritual awakening. While I am not quite convinced that that is exactly what happened, I do agree with a lot of what he has to say. I can relate to a lot of the experiences he talks about in this memoir. I definitely plan to read many of the books he mentions in his book and recommend this memoir to everyone so that they also may begin to understand this perspective. Maybe bipolar disorder is not a disorder after all. Perhaps we are the lucky ones who are waking up…
